Iowa edge Charlotte, 2-1

DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Wild (2-3-0-0, 4 points) defeated the Charlotte Checkers (1-3-0-0, 2 points) 2-1 on Saturday night in front of 4,969 fans at Wells Fargo Arena. Wild goalie Alex Stalock (1-3-0) made 35 saves in the rematch win over the Checkers. Iowa WildForwards Grayson Downing and Adam Gilmour helped lead Iowa to victory.  Charlotte goalie Alex Nedeljkovic (0-3-0) made 27 saves in the loss. Derek Ryan had the only goal of the night for the Checkers. Iowa welcomes Cleveland for a 7 PM faceoff on Tuesday.

Checker forward Derek Ryan scored his third goal of the year at 15:10 on of the first period, making it 1-0. Forward Brock McGinn sent him on a breakaway for the shorthanded goal.

Iowa forward Grayson Downing scored his first goal of the season at 18:21 of the opening period, tying the game 1-1. The power-play goal was assisted by Alex Tuch and Zach Palmquist, setting up a rebound goal for Downing.

Iowa snagged the only goal of the second period after forward Adam Gilmour tipped his first pro goal past Nedeljkovic at 11:35 of the second period, giving Iowa a 2-1 lead. Gilmour’s first of the season was set up by Colton Beck and Maxime Fortunus. Beck’s right-point shot was tipped by Gilmour, beating Nedeljkovic.
