BOISE, ID – In game two of Jacksonville’s two game stint in Boise, Idaho against the Steelheads, the Icemen followed the exact same pattern from Friday night. The Icemen took an early lead (this time a two-goal lead rather than one) but Idaho rallied and, this time, won the game in overtime 3-2.
In goal Saturday night was Tanner Jaillett for the Icemen while Ryan Faragher started for the Steelheads.
Like Friday night, the Icemen got off to an early lead when Everett Clark recorded his sixth of the season, at 9:31, off assists from Jake Randolph and Cameron Critchlow. The lead would then increase to 2-0 at 14:48 when Dajon Mingo notched his fifth of the season, off assists from Garret Cockerill and Colton Veloso. That lead would stay for the rest of the period with Jacksonville leading 2-0 after one.
The second period would start with a change in goalies for the Steelheads as Tomas Sholl replaced Faragher. The score would remain 2-0 for most of the period until the 18:13 mark, when Reid Petryk scored his fourth of the season, beating Jaillett on the short side. This being teddy-bear toss night in Boise, the teddy bears finally flew. Keegan Kanzig and Mitch Moroz recorded the assists as the Steelheads got within one. Idaho would have a chance just 25 second later when Kale Kessy was awarded a penalty shot but Jaillett stopped the attempt. There was no more scoring in the period with Jacksonville holding the 2-1 lead.
The third period Saturday night was much like Friday night, with the Steelheads controlling the play. Saturday night, the Steelheads outshot the Icemen 12-3 in the third period. However, unlike Friday night, Idaho would not get the lead but they would tie it at the 5:56. The goal would be short-handed and scored by Colton Saucerman, who, on a two-on-one break, beat Jaillett high to the glove side. For Saucerman, it was his third of the season and assists were awarded to A.J. White and Kessy. That is where the scoring end as the game went to overtime, tied at 2.
Overtime would stretch to the final minute and it would be Idaho’s Spencer Naas, whose seventh goal of the season beat Jaillett through the five hole for the game winner. Assists would be given to Jeff King and Brad McClure and the Steelheads closed out the weekend series by sweeping the Icemen, winning 3-2.
