BOISE, ID – Friday night saw the Jacksonville Icemen visit the Mountain Time Zone for the first time in franchise history, as they traveled to the CenturyLink Arena in Boise, Idaho to meet the Idaho Steelheads for the first time. A close game for the first two periods, Idaho took control in the third period and scored three unanswered goals to skate off for a 4-1 victory.
With Mikhail Berdin recalled to Manitoba, Ken Appleby got the start for the Steelheads while Tomas Sholl got the start for Idaho.
Jacksonville got the scoring off and running in the first period when Eli Lichtenwald’s pass from behind the net found Garet Hunt crossing in front. Hunt shot it past Sholl for his second goal of the season at 10:29 with Cam Maclise being given the second assist.
That lead for the Icemen would hold up until the 17:42 mark when Tony Calderone deflected in a shot by Kale Kessy for his first goal of the season. A.J. White was given the second assist and the period ended with no more scoring. The game tied at 1-1.
The second period saw no scoring but the same could not be said for the third period. Idaho took control in the third period, scoring their first goal with four seconds left on a power play opportunity. Reid Petryk scored his third goal of the season when his shot from the left face-off circle beat Appleby on the short side. The lead would stretch to 3-1 when White put in the rebound off of Steven McParland’s wraparound attempt. No other assists were awarded on the goal coming at 14:17.
The domination of the Steelheads in the third period (Idaho outshot Jacksonville 18-6 in the third) was finished by Nolan Gluchowski, who recorded his third goal of the season on an empty net. Keegan Kanzig was the awarded the only assist at 17:40 to finish out the scoring with Idaho taking the 4-1 win.
STATS – For the game, Idaho outshot Jacksonville 39-21… Jacksonville was assessed twelve minutes in penalties, Idaho eight… Attendance for the game was 4,447… Tony Calderone led all players in plus/minus with a +3… All three stars came from Idaho: 1st – Reid Petryk, 2nd – Colton Saucerman, 3rd – A.J. White
FUTURE – Jacksonville and Idaho will finish their two game series Saturday night in Boise.
