BOISE, Idaho – The Idaho Steelheads added a late power-play goal and an empty-net goal in the final moments to break open a 3-2 contest and beat the Utah Grizzlies (16-9-2-0) 5-2 Saturday evening at CenturyLink Arena.
Idaho led 1-0 after one period as each team had 11 shots and the Steelheads scored on their first power-play.
The two teams each scored two goals in the first nine minutes of the second period as the Grizzlies tied the contest at one on Phil Pietroniro’s first professional goal at 2:10 of the second before Idaho got the lead back 24 seconds later. The teams then traded power-play goals as Idaho went up 3-1 before
Roberts Lipsbergs tipped in a Shayne Taker blast less than two minutes later.
The 3-2 score stayed until Idaho’s two goals in the final 4:05. Ryan Faragher took the loss in goal, just his second of the season, to drop to 11-2-1-0.
