Cedar Park, TX – The Rockford IceHogs rallied against the Stars Friday night, winning 4-3 in overtime inside the H-E-B Center.
After two successful Rockford penalty kills, Antonio Stranges broke the ice at 10:48 of the 1st. The Stars forward tapped in a backdoor feed from defenseman Tommy Bergsland.
In the 2nd period, tempers flared with both Dmitri Kuzmin and Taige Harding dropping the gloves. With two minutes to go in the middle frame, Curtis McKenzie snapped a shot past Drew Commesso for a 2-0 Stars’ lead.
With zeros on the clock heading into the 3rd period, Kole Lind was assessed a five-minute major putting the Hogs on a man-advantage.
The Hogs wasted no time, making the Stars pay with a seeing-eye wrist shot from Nick Lardis that cut the deficit to 2-1.
On a following Rockford man-advantage, Lardis set up for a one-timer from the far dot and blasted the tying goal past Remi Poirier.
With just over two minutes to go in regulation and while shorthanded, Joey Anderson broke the puck up and fed the slot where Nolan Allan was waiting. The defenseman deked to his backhand and slid the puck five-hole for the 3-2 lead.
Texas pulled their goalie for the extra-attacker and scored seconds later with an Artem Shlaine tally to force overtime.
Halfway through the 3-on-3 period, Aidan Thompson located a rebound in the crease and jammed the puck home for the game-winning goal.
