IceHogs Close Out Home Stand with 5-1 Loss to Griffins

Grand Rapids jumped out to an early lead with two goals in the first eight minutes. AHL leading scorer John Leonard was left alone by the near post and scored his 11th of the year.

Three minutes later, Amadeus Lombardi elevated a backhand shot over the IceHogs’ Stanislav Berezhnoy to double the lead.

The Griffins earned the games’ first power play with the Hogs taking a bench minor at 4:33 of the 2nd. On the man advantage, Austin Watson spotted Eduards Tralmaks on the near side who blasted a drive home for the 3-0 lead.

Before the 2nd period finished, Connor Mylymok got the BMO crowd going, dropping the mitts and Watson to the ice.

Halfway through the 3rd frame, GR defenseman William Lagesson let a seeing-eye shot go from the point that snuck through for a 4-0 Griffins’ advantage.

With eight minutes remaining, Carson Bantle tacked on the Griffins’ 5th goal from inbetween the hashmarks. On its fourth power play of the period, the Hogs man advantage converted. Gavin Hayes’ shot deflected off of Jamie Engelbert and past Sebastian Cossa to cut the deficit to 5-1.
