MELBOURNE, Australia – The Sydney IceDogs’ season has not gone well so far but Sunday was a night to remember for the Sydney side.
Trailing 4-1 heading to the final frame, the IceDogs reeled off five unanswered goals en route to a 6-4 win over the Melbourne Mustangs.
“Both teams knew it was kind of a season breaker for them,” Sydney coach Vlad Rubes said on theaihl.com web site report. “We started a bit slower, and they scored three quick goals. Being 3-1 down and then 4-1 down after two periods didn’t look so good, but I’m pretty proud of the boys that they found their second gear in the third period.”
In the third period outburst from Sydney, Grant Toulmin scored a hat trick and added an assist.
Jamie Bourke scored his own hat trick for the Mustangs through the first two periods but it was clearly not enough.
Strat Allen, Ellesse Carini and Paul Swindlehurst also scored for the IceDogs.
Matt Stringer also scored for the Mustangs.
