Peoria, IL – – The Peoria Rivermen out-worked the Knoxville Ice Bears Friday night at Peoria’s Carver Arena, but Knoxville was luckier and came away with a 3-2 overtime win.
Knoxville never trailed in the game when Bryce Neilsen scored the only goal of the first period on a power play. The Rivermen player catch-up the rest of the night.
Stanislav Dzakhov was the star of the night.
Not only did Dzakhov score the winning goal in overtime, but he also scored in the second period and assisted on the opening goal.
Ben Blasko ad Beau Walker were goal scorers for the Rivermen, as the home team blasted Michael Santaguido with 39 shots, many of them echoing loudly off his pads.
Santaguido stopped 37 of 39 in the winning effort, improving his record to 8-5-3. Storm Phaeuf was credited with 20 saves on 23 attempts in the loss, dropping to 12-1-2 on the season.
Only four penalties between the two teams during this game. Each team had two power plays, with only Knoxville scoring during the first of theirs.
One notable penalty was the second period on the Rivermen. A slashing call on Dennis Sicard, fresh out of retirement, extended his all-time SPHL penalty lead by two minutes.
The two teams play again Saturday night in Peoria.
