MELBOURNE, Australia – On Saturday 11th July the first of the games on the week end, started out physical and played with a lot of passion. Melbourne ice, were the first to score through Mitch Humphries. With a 1.15 to go on the clock Perth Thunder, Bradley Young tried to show his superiority over Lliam Webster and only succeeding in getting both of them thrown out of the game and a game misconduct.
Perth Thunder responded with in the first 2 mins of the second period to even up the score. The game continued as an arm wrestle and by the end of the second it was 2 all.
The third period was going to be promising, but Perth Thunder had control of the puck for majority of the game and they were able to get the first goal on the board. Mitch Humphries managed to score with about 10 mins to go 2 quick goals within two minutes to complete a hat trick.
The final score was Melbourne Ice 5 – Perth Thunder 3. Only 66 pim for the game and between the pipes for Melbourne Ice was Alec Leclerc, he played an outstanding game facing 45 shots. Where the Perth gaolie, Mark Guggenberger only faced 24 shots on goal. The other questions that are raised how good was the D for Perth Thunder? Why were Melbourne Ice not able to penetrate the defence and only get away with winning 5-3 with 24 shots on the Perth Goalie. Another point was Melbourne Ice to fancy with the puck?
Sunday’s games 12th July started out the same as the previous game that was physical but not nasty. Melbourne ice were first to score and it was not long before Perth Thunder to respond. The arm wrestle continued throughout Sunday’s game.
