PENSACOLA, FL – The Pensacola Ice Flyers lost to the Birmingham Bulls 3-1 in an early Sunday afternoon matchup in Pelham, Alabama. Craig Simchuk scored two of the goals for the Bulls and Shane Topf scored the third. Brian Morgan scored Pensacola’s lone goal.At the 5:58 mark of the first period, Craig Simchuk scored the first goal of the game for Birmingham assisted by Nick Owen and Garrett Schmitz. The Ice Flyers outshot the Bulls 12 to 11.
The second period saw Brian Morgan’s score his first goal in his first game back with the Ice Flyers since his callup to the ECHL last season to tie the game. Morgan’s goal came with assists from Tanner Froese and Matt Johnson at 1:48. The Bulls took the lead at 6:15 with a goal from Shane Topf assisted by Caleb Apperson and Garrett Johnston. Craig Simchuk scored his second of the game to make it 3-1 at 16:08. He was assisted by Taylor Dickin and Caleb Apperson.
The Ice Flyers pulled Brian Billett from the net with 2:53 left in an attempt to cut the Bulls’ 3-1 lead down but were unable to come up with a goal. The Ice Flyers outshot the Bulls 13-11 in the third.
