MELBOURNE, Australia – Whenever these two teams meet in the local derby the fans are not dissapointed and this game was certainly up to standard in front of a full house.
The first period started and it started with a quick flurry of goals with 3 goals scored within less than 5 mins of the first puck drop. Mustangs were able to get the 1st point on the board through Pat O’Kane. Melbourne Ice responded quicly through Lliam Webster and then followed up with another goal by Todd Graham. At the end of the 1st period the score line was Mustangs 1 – Melbourne Ice 2.
In the second period, the game was getting more physical and it was easy to see the the emotions were starting to simmer and could easily boil over. The Mustangs were able to respond with two goals in the second period and the Ice were only able to score the one goal this period. So the End of the second the score is tied 3 all.
In the third period, both the teams lifted the tempo and you could feel that both teams were playing for bragging rights. Mustangs were able to score through Joey Hughes, to make the score 4-3. Melbourne Ice responded 4 mins later though Jason Baclig to even up the score line 4 all. The final score came through the Matt Armstrong from the Melbourne Ice with 1.26 left on the clock.
The final score was Mustang losing to Melbourne Ice 5-4.
An intersting point of the game Mustangs had 34 shots on goal and the Melbourne Ice has 35 and the last goal faced by the Mustangs Goalie Fraser Carson was the winning goal and the deciding margin.
Mustangs has 9 penalties for 36pim and Melbourne Ice had five penalties for 1pim. Melbourne Ice were able to play out the third period with out incurring a penalty.
