KNOXVILLE, TN – Friday night at the Columbus Civic Center, the Knoxville Ice Bears used early scoring and the solid play of goalie Bryan Hince to defeat the Huntsville Havoc 4-1 in front of an announced crowd of 3,397 on College Night.
Francis Drolet scored at 8:49 of the first period to put the Ice Bears in front. Assists on the Drolet tally were credited to Eric Satim and Ryan Salvis. Satim followed with a score of his own off assists from Salvis and Robbie Donahoe at the 12:38 mark of the period to push the lead to 2-0.
Salvis set up Satim for his second of the night, a short-handed score 53 seconds into the second period that gave the host Ice Bears a three goal cushion. Ben Schoenberger finished off Knoxville’s scoring at the 4:23 mark of the middle frame off yet another assist from Salvis.
Hince, who finished the game with 24 saves, was finally beaten by the Havoc in the third when Stuart Stefan netted a power play goal off assists from Ray Ortiz and Justin Cseter.
The contest, which had been relatively quiet with just one fight in the first two periods,
became wild in the final twenty minutes. Of the 126 combined penalty minutes between the two rivals, 94 came in the last twelve minutes of play which saw several fights break out. Havoc players Corey Bellamy and Colin Hekle were each ejected from the contest while Knoxville’s Corey Fulton was also sent to the showers early.
Huntsville goalie Jesse Kallechy stopped 21 of the 25 shots he faced in suffering the loss. Knoxville’s power play went zero-for-four while Huntsville went one-for-five with the man advantage
Satim’s two goal earned him first star honors while Salvis was awarded the second star for his four point night. Schenberger was named the third star.
