Hutchins takes charge of the Stars

DURHAM, UK – Elite League veteran Jeff Hutchins has been appointed as player/coach of the Dundee Stars for the 2012/13 season. Hutchins spent the last campaign with the Stars posting just over a point per game during his time with the organisation.
Hutchins has a wealth of experience in British hockey as he has appeared for 6 sides in the Elite League as well as spending a little time in the English Premier League since first moving to the UK back in 2005 when he signed by the Coventry Blaze. He also has spent time with the Newcastle Vipers, Belfast Giants, Sheffield Steelers, Bracknell Bees and Edinburgh Capitals which should provide Hutchins with extensive knowledge of the hockey scene in Britain.
There had been much speculation as to who would be selected to lead the Stars next term. Former Coventry Blaze and Slough Jets forward Adam Calder was heavily linked with the role however these rumours proved to be well wide of the mark as Hutchins was selected to lead Dundee both on and off the ice next term.
Stars will no doubt be hoping that the appointment of Hutchins as player coach can see the side improve on the 8th place finish they achieved last season. Claiming the final play off spot was a creditable achievement by Dundee in 2011/12 so Hutchins will have to inspire his new side if they are to show further progress when the new campaign gets underway.
