In Raleigh, the Hurricanes rolled up a 5-0 lead headed to the third period on Saturday and throttled the visiting Buffalo Sabres, 6-2.
Sebastian Aho hit for a double in the win.
“Obviously it just counts for the two points but it’s nice to have that kind of effort,” Aho said. “Nice way to end this homestand and sets the tone for the big road trip.”
Pyotr Kochetkov made 21 saves in the Canes win.
Carolina improved to 14-8-1.
The Hurricanes got the offense going in the first stanza off a strike from Aho, his first of the game, at 15:26 for a 1-0 lead.
Carolina’s Jack Drury scored at 16:36 of the first to push the advantage to 2-0. headed to the middle frame.
“I’m fortunate to get to play with some good players out there,” Drury said. “They make it easy, and I just have to capitalize when I get my chances.”
The house fell in on the Sabres in the second period when the Canes hit for three more markers.
The Sabres dropped to 10-12-2.
“There’s going to be frustrating moments and frustrating things, but you can’t play frustrated,” Sabres coach Don Granato said. “Again, very simple. We didn’t compete at the level we needed to. A lot can get complicated when that’s not the case.”
Aho picked up his double off the power play at 1:06 with a power play strike and a 3-0 lead to Carolina.of the second period.
“He was good. He was the difference,” Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “That line was good. He was real special tonight.”
The Canes piled on from there with Stefan Noesen potting a goal at 14:12 for a 4-0 advantage..

Teuvo Teravainen ballooned the lead to 5-0 at 18:04 of the second.
Buffalo finally broke through at 4:08 of the third from Casey Mittelstadt to make it 5-1.
Brady Skjei responded four minutes later for Carolina with a shorthanded goal to make it 5-1.
Buffalo’s Tyson Jost scored a cosmetic midway through the third for the 6-2 final.
Eric Comrie made 29 saves in the loss.
“I don’t think I was good enough tonight for the team,” Comrie said. “I don’t feel like I gave the team enough of a chance to win. I’ll take the blame myself there.”
