In Pittsburgh, Jesper Fast and Sebastian Aho struck for third period goals on Sunday afternoon to snap a 2-2 tie with the Penguins enroute to a 4-3 win.
Antti Raanta made 31 saves in the Canes win.
Evan Rodrigues scored with under two minutes left in the third period to get the Pens back within one at 4-3.
The Hurricanes improved to 34-11-4.
Bryan Rust and Sidney Crosby also scored for Pittsburgh.
The Pens dropped to 31-13-8.
Jordan Staal also scored for the Hurricanes, his goal came with just none seconds elapsed in the middle frame.
Staal’s goal made the count 2-0, in favor of the Hurricanes after Jesperi Kotkaniemi scored in the first period for a 1-0 Carolina lead.
Tristan Jarry made 26 saves in the Pens loss.
