In Raleigh Sunday afternoon, the Hurricanes’ Scott Darling made 32 saves to get much needed win for himself and his Hurricanes, 4-3, over the Nashville Predators, in a shootout.
Josh Jooris, Victor Rask and Justin Williams scored in regulation for Carolina.
Darling had to face a penalty in the extra session after Jordan Staal was called for tripping.
“That was big for us,” Staal said. “Obviously, there is a lot of room out there 4-on-3. Nordstrom did a great job of eating a few, and he made a couple other good plays to get us the kill.”
Nashville got regulation goals from Viktor Arvidsson, Mattias Ekholm and Craig Smith.
“I thought that they were a little quicker than us in the first period,” Predators head coach Peter Laviolette said. “I thought the second and third period we played better, had our looks and had our chances.”
In the shootout, Sebastian Aho and Teuvo Teravainen scored for the Canes.
“It might have been the best game we’ve been involved in all year between both teams,” Canes head coach Bill Peters said. “They’re a real good team, and we’re a real good team when we play properly.”

Juuse Saros made 33 saves in the loss.
“I thought his performance today was excellent. This is a team that throws a lot of shots at the net. There is a lot going on for him. This might be one of the games where we gave up the most quality chances; it might be 26 or 27 quality chances. He played an excellent game,” Laviolette said of Saros’ efforts in the game.
