Huge night of EIHL Cup action on Wednesday

It’s a crucial evening of Challenge Cup action on Wednesday, with several teams looking to secure their places in the next round.

In Group A, Nottingham Panthers and Coventry Blaze face off in what is effectively a one-game shootout for both teams, despite it only being late October. A loss for either side would leave them nervously waiting on the outcome of Cardiff’s final game in Guildford, while a win would guarantee the Blaze or Panthers a berth in the Semi-Finals.

Coventry are guaranteed a Semi-Final spot if the game goes to overtime. Should the Panthers win in overtime, Coventry would still qualify directly for the Semis. Nottingham would advance to the elimination game, and Cardiff would be eliminated as they wouldn’t be able to catch the Panthers on tiebreak point VI. Any regulation victory for Coventry could see them win the group, depending on Sheffield’s result in Manchester in their final group fixture.

In Group B, Dundee Stars visit Fife Flyers in Kirkcaldy in the return fixture of games moved earlier in the season. A win for the visitors would take them back to the top of the group and eliminate Fife from contention with two games to spare. It would also give Dundee a five-point cushion over Glasgow heading into their final three games, two of which are against the Clan.
