Filip Hronek was traded to the Vancouver Canucks by the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday.
The Red Wings received a conditional first-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, which the Canucks acquired when they traded Bo Horvat to the New York Islanders, and a second-round pick in 2023 draft. The Red Wings also received a fourth-round pick in the 2023 draft. The first-round pick the Red Wings received could potentially move to the 2024 NHL Draft.
Hronek, a 25-year-old defenseman, was selected by Detroit in the second round (No. 53) of the 2016 NHL Draft. He has 38 points (nine goals, 29 assists) in 60 games this season, and 156 points (30 goals, 126 assists) in 305 NHL games over five seasons.
He was to be reevaluated Wednesday for an upper-body injury after leaving midway through the second period of the Red Wings’ 6-1 loss at the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday.

Hronek can become a restricted free agent after next season.
“We are excited to add a 25-year-old right-shot defenseman who handles the puck well and possesses a strong two-way game,” Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin said. “He has steadily progressed throughout his time in Detroit to show that he is a top-pairing defenseman in this league. We are happy to continue to add younger pieces to build out the core of this team.”
The Red Wings (28-24-8) are five points behind the Pittsburgh Penguins for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference. The Canucks (24-31-5) are 19 points behind the Winnipeg Jets and Edmonton Oilers for the two wild cards in the Western Conference.
