Hogs Ham Wolves In Home Opener PHN's Best Shots of the Game

 

ROSEMONT, IL The start of the American Hockey League kicked off this weekend. The Chicago Wolves and Rockford Icehogs were part of the opening festivities, but the Wolves fall short 5-3 Saturday evening at the Allstate Arena.

Wolves Forwards C.J. Smith and Ryan Suzuki and Wolves defenseman Eric Gelinas scored for the Wolves (0-1-0-0). Chicago with a 43-22 shot advantage over the Hogs. This is the first game between these two clubs this season and won’t be the last. This is the first game back at Allstate Arena for the Wolves since March, 8 2020.

Rockford goaltender Soderbolm would block the shot, but Suzuki pokes it in for the rebound.

Rockford would hurdle Chicago’s lead to 2-1 when center Evan Barratt would get the puck from a Wolves turnover in the second. Hogs would then rattle the Wolves cage when Lukas Reichel takes a shot at Wolves goaltender Alex Lyon. The shot deflected, but that would not be enough to save it from crossing the line.

Rockford would come back in the lead when Rockford Brett Connolly gave the Hogs a 3-2 lead on a 2 on 1 in the third. Hogs would score again with a 4-2 lead in the third when Mike Hardman sets up Alex Nylander for a breakaway to put it past Lyon.

The Wolves would then make the score 4-3 when Dominik Bokk would assist Gelinas for a rocket one timer on a power play. However, the Hogs would hammer away with a empty netter when Nylander would add to Rockfords lead and make it 5-3.Soderbolm(1-0-0) with 41 saves Lyon (0-1-0) stopped 17 of 21 shots.

The Wolves return to Allstate Arena at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23, when they host the Milwaukee Admirals (1-0-0-0) on Breast Cancer Awareness Night.
