ROCKFORD, Ill – Texas was defeated by the IceHogs 3-1 on Friday night at the Rockford Metro Centre. Rockford rookie Jeremy Morin scored 2:47 into the third period and forward Ryan Potulny added an empty-net goal late in the third period to seal the Hogs second straight win over Texas. Rockford goalie Hannu Toivonen (8-7-3) made 29 saves for the win, while Texas goalie Richard Bachman (14-8-2) stopped 30 of 32 Rockford shots in the loss. Texas right wing Colton Sceviour had the lone Stars goal, as the team dropped to 11-7-0-1 on the road this season.
After a scoreless first period, Rockford opened the scoring 2:10 into the second period. Rookie forward Kyle Beach snapped a wrist shot from the right-wing circle, beating Texas goalie Richard Bachman for his eighth goal of the year. Left wing Rob Klinkhammer set up the play for the 1-0 Rockford lead.
In the third period, the Stars crept back into the game at 1:38 of the final frame. Right wing Colton Sceviour scored off a rebound, putting in his eighth goal of the year for the 1-1 score. Forward Greg Rallo and defenseman Maxime Fortunus each had an assist on the Stars goal. The IceHogs moved back in front 49-seconds later after Jeremy Morin scored his eighth goal of the year for a 2-1 Rockford lead. Morin finished off a cross-ice feed from Mathis Olimb to move the Hogs ahead of Texas at 2:47.
Ryan Potulny scored his tenth goal of the year, an empty-net tally at 19:25 for the 3-1 final.
