Vinnie Hinostroza signed a one-year, $1.7 million contract with the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old forward had 25 points (13 goals, 12 assists) in 62 games this season, including three points (two goals, one assist) in Buffalo’s 5-2 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs at the 2022 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic.
Hinostroza could have become an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday.
Selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the sixth round (No. 169) of the 2012 NHL Draft, Hinostroza has 137 points (51 goals, 86 assists) in 334 regular-season games for the Sabres, Blackhawks, Florida Panthers and Arizona Coyotes, and two assists in eight Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Hinostroza originally joined the Sabres after signing a one-year contract July 28, 2021, reuniting with Granato, who was an assistant with Chicago in 2017-18. He scored 25 points (seven goals, 18 assists) in 50 games that season.
