In Glendale, Andi Hill made 25 saves and the Coyotes defeated the Vegas Golden Knights, 3-0, on Friday night.
“We were disciplined,” Hill said. “We had only two penalties, we kept their shots to the outside, we just made simple plays and cleared the puck. It was great to watch. We played a simple game, but we kept doing exactly what we wanted.”
The loss ended a 10-game win streak for the Knights.
“We’ve won 10 of our last 11,” Vegas’ Mark Stone said. “I joked with the guys (that) we’re not the Harlem Globetrotters, we can’t win them all.”
John Hayden scored to give Arizona a 1-0 lead in the first period.
“Offensively, we just weren’t very good,” Stone said. “They’re fighting for their lives, and they’ve pretty much got to win out, and they brought their best game.”
Hill made that stand up until the third period when Michael Bunting pushed the lead to 2-0 early in the frame.
“I thought we played quick and simple, we got pucks forward, we got them deep,” Bunting said. “We forced turnovers, and we made plays when they were available. I liked our game.”
Christian Fischer added an empty-net goal to ice the win.
“We’ll be ready to play tomorrow,” Stone said. “It’s a big one for us. We’ve got to continue to win games if we’re going to be where we want to be at the end of the year.”
Robin Lehner made 29 saves in the loss.
“We won 10 games in a row, and it’s a hard league to win two in a row, never mind 11,” Vegas head coach Peter DeBoer said. “You have to give them credit, they were desperate, they were energized. Their goalie is good, and he’s played well against us.”
