A back and forth game between the Winnipeg Jets and Ducks in Anaheim Thursday ended with a surprising 4-3 win for the Ducks in the skills competition.
It was surprising in that the Ducks lost John Gibson to injury late in the third period and needed Ryan Miller to step in col and get them through the final six minutes and overtime.
“Last couple shootouts I’ve been in haven’t gone our way,” Miller said. “Stepping into a game, you want to come through.”
Miller was solid in the shootout and made Adam Henrique‘s strike in the shootout stand up for the win.
“It’s a tough situation to put a goalie in cold and then he doesn’t see a shot until the shootout,” Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle said. “He’s a veteran guy and I don’t think much fazes him.”
Henrique also scored in regulation and Nick Ritchie and Ryan Kesler added markers for Anaheim.
“[Henrique] has been shuffled down the lineup but he still has continued to make a strong contribution offensively. He’s been kind of a difference-maker for us,” Carlyle said of Henrique.
Jack Roslovic (first NHL goal), Patrik Laine and Brandon Tanev struck for the Jets.
Roslovic scored in the third period to get the Jets even with the Ducks at 3-3.
“It was good to get the first one and tie the game up there late,” Roslovic said. “Would’ve liked to get the win, but it was good.”
The Jets had a three-game streak snapped and dropped to 29-13-8 with the loss.
Gibson made 24 saves in the game before leaving with the injury.

Connor Hellebuyck made 36 saves.
“Anytime you play these guys it’s physical, especially in this building,” the Jets’ Blake Wheeler said of the Ducks after the loss.
