Hellebuyck Leads Jets Over Predators

WINNIPEG  – Winnipeg needed somebody to step up and help get them on track during this five-game losing streak and Connor Hellebuyck decided he was going to be the man as he turned in his best goaltending performance of the season turning away 42 Nashville shots in a 3-0 Jets win.

The Jets and Predators were playing the second game of a home and home series that saw Nashville win 5-1 on Friday night and have their way with the helpless Jets but things were different back in Winnipeg as the Jets turned in a very solid game.WPG Jets logo

Hellebuyck earned his second shutout of the season and the fourth of his young NHL career. It was a big bounce back game for him as he was lit up in goal on Friday night.

Although Nashville controlled a lot of the play the Jets played a real hard nosed game and got very strong goaltending .

Nashville was 0 for 5 on the power play as the Jets got outstanding penalty killing in this game. Including killing off a four-minute high sticking penalty to Mark Stuart who is also one of there top killers.

Drew Stafford scored his first of the season on a wrap around and he looks like he is regaining his form after missing 15 games due to injury.

Juuse Saros was in goal for Nashville and was just recently recalled from the AHL . He played very well making 21 saves in his first appearance of this season.

Mark Scheifele added his 12th of the season into an empty net as did Adam Lowry who got his sixth also into an empty net.

Captain Blake Wheeler made two very unselfish plays by setting up both players for the empty net goals to get them out of there slumps as well.

The Jets will welcome the New Jersey Devils to town on Tuesday night.
