Heat sweep Barracuda in pair of weekend games

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Stockton Heat sent the visiting San Jose Barracuda home empty handed after a pair of wins.  In Friday’s game, Stockton came from a 4-1 deficit, to tie the game in the third period, and ultimately get the game winner in overtime.  That exciting match was followed Saturday, as Stockton held on to a 2-1 final in regulation.

Tanner Glass  scored the only goal of the first 40 minutes in the first game.  Adam Helewka, and Sam Warning each scored for San Jose in the first period. Alexander True and Radim Simek each scored in the second period to put the Barracuda up 4-1.

But the Heat came back with a vengence during the third period, following a short fight between True and Brent Pollock at the 42 second mark.  As they served their time in the penalty box, Austin Carroll started the scoring when his pass from the bottom of the circle beat Troy Grosenick for the goal.  Rasmus Andersson scored the next two tallies, ultimately evening the score at 17:09 into the period.

Hunter Shinkaruk was the hero of the overtime period, when his shot sinks at the 4:21 mark, for the 5-4 win over the Barracuda.

Mason McDonald served the net well, earning the win with 25 saves. Grosenick had 41 saves for the loss.

On Saturday, the Heat continued to pound at the net, with Antoine Bibeau in goal for the Barracuda, out shooting them 38-26 for the 2-1 win.

Andrew Mangiapane opened the scoring in the second period at 7:47.  Spencer Foo scored again at 13:39 for the 2-0 lead after two.

Rourke Charier scored the loan Barracuda goal of the night, less than two minutes into the third period.

Despite several Heat penalties throughout the third period, they were able to stave off San Jose, and McDonald held firm in the net.

Stockton will hit the road again as they travel to Cleveland for a pair of games.  San Jose will continue their road trip in Ontario.
