Heat singe Rampage, 6-2

STOCKTON, Calif  – The San Antonio Rampage (16-15-7-0) wrapped up a four-game road trip with a 6-2 loss to the Stockton Heat (13-15-1-2) in front of 2,818 in Stockton Arena.

Stockton started the scoring in the eighth minute of the opening period when textbook puck movement allowed for an open backdoor shot for Derek Grant. The Heat capitalized off a Rampage turnover just 30 seconds later, as Turner Elson sent a pass

from behind the net for an open Morgan Klimchuk, who put the puck past Martin. The Rampage would answer in the 12th minute of the period to cut into the Stockton lead when Reid Petryk scored his second short-handed goal of the season.

San Antonio gave up two more goals in the second stanza. A rebound led to an easy finish for Freddie Hamilton early in the stanza, and Kenny Agostino extended Stockton’s lead to three five minutes later. Dennis Everberg cut into the lead when Cody Corbett fired a rocket from the point, allowing Everberg to clean up a loose rebound in front of the net, and the Silver and Black trailed 4-2 entering the second intermission.

Despite outshooting the Heat 12-4 in the third period, the Rampage were unable to make a comeback. Aaron Johnson found the back of the net at the 10:37 mark and Hamilton bagged his second of the night late in the frame to account for the final 6-2 score.

Martin finished with 27 saves on 33 shots, while the Silver and Black failed to record a power play goal (0-for-5) in their fifth consecutive game.
