Heat comes up big with 4-1 win

ABBOTSFORD, BC – In a game the Heat needed to win rookie Mitch Wahl picked up three points on the night including his first two AHL playoff goals and David Schantz backed up the offense with 26 saves as Abbotsford evened their series with the Hamilton Bulldogs.   The series now knotted at two games apiece, with game five scheduled for Saturday in Abbotsford.

The Heat’s 4-1 win pushes the series back to Hamilton for game six on Monday. The game was a night of firsts for Wahl and Lance Bouma potted his first professional goal in the win.

Bouma opened the scoring at 12:44 of the first period off feeds from Carter Bancks and Wahl. The Bulldogs tied the game midway through the second stanza made with a goal from Ryan Russell, his third of the playoffs.   Wahl picked up a power play goal less than two minutes later to put the Heat up 2-1.

The Bulldogs were unable to put sufficient pressure on the Heat net to get any closer.
Wahl added insurance to the lead at 3:26 of the third period. David Van der Gulik added a goal late the third to close out the scoring.
Cedrick Desjardins took the loss in net for the Bulldogs making 25 saves on 29 shots.
