STOCKTON, Calif – The San Antonio Rampage (24-26-8-0) came up short in their final game of the 2016 Rodeo Road Trip, falling to the Stockton Heat (23-21-1-2) 3-2 in front of 4,677 at Stockton Arena. The Rampage rallied late, getting a goal from Andrew Agozzino in the waning seconds of regulation to come within one, but San Antonio failed to tie the game at three in the final 47 seconds. Agozzino led the Silver and Black with a goal and an assist.
Despite combining for 25 shots in the first period, neither team found the back of the net in the first 20 minutes. The scoring drought ended in the eighth minute of the second stanza when Freddie Hamilton bagged a power-play goal, putting the Heat up 1-0.
San Antonio fired back six minutes later with a power-play goal of their own when Nikita Zadorov slipped the puck past Kevin Poulin. The Silver and Black would continue to build momentum off the marker, but fell flat late in the frame when Stockton grabbed two goals in a 19-second window, a season record for fastest two goals allowed. Prior to Sunday’s game, the fastest two goals allowed by the Rampage was 21 seconds, also against Stockton on Jan. 14. The Silver and Black trailed 3-1 heading into the second intermission.
San Antonio rallied late in the third period, as Agozzino tallied his 12th of the season, but ultimately fell short. San Antonio wrapped up the 2016 Rodeo Road Trip with nine points and a 4-6-1-0 record.
Roman Will collected 39 saves on 42 shots while holding Stockton to one goal on eight opportunities with the man advantage. San Antonio’s power-play unit found the back of the net once on five chances.
