HC Venom Paralyze River Dragons

Columbus, GA – The HC Venom defeated the Columbus River Dragons in regulation last night, 1-0.

Although the defensive efforts produced by River Dragons only allowed 22 shots on goal, a momentary breakdown allowed Nikolai Salov to score the contest’s only goal at 10:25 in the first period.

Late in the third period, Petizian prepared to vacate the net to stage a 6-on-5 advantage for Columbus, but was forced to remain on the ice when Nolan Slachetka was penalized for slashing at 17:54.

The effort produced by the River Dragons through the remaining two minutes proved to be fruitless. Although several shots were placed on goal, John Moriarty thwarted Columbus’ hopes of sending the contest into overtime.

This loss is the second for Columbus at home this weekend.

John Moriarty produced a shutout for the HC Venom with 31 saves.

The third chapter of this weekend’s series will be decided on Sunday afternoon. Puck drop is scheduled for 4:05 pm.
