Carter Hart signed a three-year, $11.9 million contract with the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday. It has an average annual value of $3.98 million.
The 22-year-old goalie was a restricted free agent after going 9-11-5 with a 3.67 goals-against average, .877 save percentage and one shutout in 27 games (25 starts) last season.
He did not play after April 15 because of a sprained MCL in his left knee.
The Flyers signed goalie Martin Jones to a one-year, $2 million contract July 28 to replace Brian Elliott as Hart’s backup. Elliott signed a one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning on July 28.
Philadelphia also traded for defensemen Ryan Ellis (Nashville Predators) and Rasmus Ristolainen (Buffalo Sabres), and signed defenseman Keith Yandle to a one-year contract after allowing an NHL-high 3.52 goals per game last season.
Hart was 24-13-3 with a 2.42 GAA, .914 save percentage and one shutout in 43 games (40 starts) in 2019-20, and 9-5 with a 2.23 GAA, .926 save percentage and two shutouts in 14 Stanley Cup Playoff games to help the Flyers reach the Eastern Conference Second Round.
A second-round pick (No. 48) in the 2016 NHL Draft, Hart is 49-37-9 with a 2.88 GAA, .905 save percentage and two shutouts in 101 regular-season games (95 starts).
Flyers defenseman Travis Sanheim also is a restricted free agent. He is scheduled to have a salary arbitration hearing Aug. 26.
