Ben Harpur agreed to a two-year, $1.575 million contract with the New York Rangers on Thursday. 
The 28-year-old defenseman will receive $775,000 in the first year and $800,000 in the second year. He could have been an unrestricted free agent after the season.
Harpur has three points (one goal, two assists) in 18 games for the Rangers. He signed a professional tryout contract Oct. 13, agreed to a one-year deal Oct. 27 and played four games for Hartford in the American Hockey League.
The Rangers (26-14-8) are 11-4-3 while allowing the third-fewest goals-against per game in the NHL (2.33) since Harpur debuted Dec. 15. They host the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday (7 p.m. ET; TVAS, MSG, ATTSN-RM, ESPN+, SN NOW)
Harpur has 18 points (two goals, 16 assists) in 174 NHL games with the Rangers, Nashville Predators and Ottawa Senators.
