CHELMSFORD, UK – Chelmsford Chieftains all-star forward Danny Hammond announced his retirement from the game this weekend ending thirteen seasons of senior hockey.

The Chelmsford born sniper iced in eleven league campaigns for his home town team amassing over 300 appearances and notching an impressive 282 goals and 285 assists in that time.
Multiple league championships and Play-Off wins in Chelmsford colours are also on his CV and he also spent some time in the English Premier League with close rivals Romford Raiders in 2007/8.
Following a successful career on the ice, Hammond is set to replicate this off the ice as he completes the process of opening his own fitness facility. The decision to hang the skates up has not been taken lightly at the tender age of 27, but Hammond is happy with his decision.
‘Opening my new facility will take a lot of my time and focus’ he explained. ‘I need to give it my full attention and hockey is such a big commitment.’

‘I have been lucky enough to be part of such a great club here at Chelmsford. We’ve won a lot over past years, which don’t get me wrong I’ve loved but for me, having no real room for movement or progression in the league/leagues has taken me as far as I can play.’
‘I have played over 20 years so it has been a big part of my life, however it’s time to move on to a new chapter’
Hammond signed off his hockey career with a goal in an otherwise disappointing Play-Off defeat to Invicta Dynamos this weekend, however bagged a league title and cup winners medal earlier in the campaign. He was voted on to the league all-star team this season after a return to form with 28 goals in 27 league games.
‘I would like to thank all the supporters for getting behind me and the team over the years’ added Hammond. ‘Plus everyone involved in the Chieftains including the coaching staff, players and management.’
Danny Hammond quits the game as the Chieftains second all-time point scorer behind the legendary Rick Smith and 74 points ahead of third placed Andy Hannah. Everyone wishes Danny all the best with his new venture.
