TORONTO,ONT – This weekend the American Hockey league will set a new ice hockey record. Saturday’s second AHL outdoor game of the season will be the first outdoor AHL game in Canada, and what a match-up it will be.
The Toronto Marlies will face off against division rivals, the Hamilton Bulldogs at Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton, home of Canadian Football league outfit Hamilton Tiger Cats.
With a capacity of nearly 30,000 seats, host Hamilton will be looking for a stellar crowd.
Having already met four times this season with the Bulldogs holding a 3-1-0 lead over the Marlies, Saturday’s game will see the Marlies looking for an upset in the Bulldogs back yard.
The most recent matchup was a close battle with the Bulldogs just taking the points 2-1 with goals from Andreas Engqvist’s and Alexander Avtsin. Marlies left winger Marcel Mueller scored the only goal for the Marlies with all all three goals coming in a close fought first period.
Heading into Saturday’s game the Marlies have a week’s rest and should be firing on all cylinders come game time.
The Bulldogs head into the game on the back of a 4-2 victory over Milwaukee Admirals their fifth win in seven games.
