HAMILTON, ONT. – Hamilton Bulldogs (17-17-6-0) forward Gabriel Dumont provided all the offence for his club on Friday evening with both goals in a 2-1 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins (19-14-3-1) at FirstOntario Centre.
Dumont opened the scoring with his eighth goal of the season on the power play at 13:40 of the first period, with assists from defencemen Darren Dietz and Mac Bennett.
After a scoreless second period that saw the ‘Dogs out-shoot the Griffins 13-8, Grand Rapids tied things up 1-1 at 5:17 of the third period when forward Mark Zengerle put a shot over Hamilton goaltender Mike Condon from a sharp angle. Forwards Jeff Hoggan and Colin Campbell had assists.
With just over six minutes left to play, Dumont was sprung on a breakaway by forward Jacob de la Rose and the Bulldogs captain went five-hole on Griffins goaltender Jared Coreau for his ninth goal of the season to make it a 2-1 game.
Condon made 20 saves on 21 shots for the Bulldogs in the win, while Coreau stopped 32 of 34 shots faced for the Griffins in the loss.
