Hamilton, Flames burn Jets, 6-2

In Calgary Saturday, Dougie Hamilton scored twice and had three points to lead the Flames to a 6-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets.

“We’re just playing,” Hamilton said. “I think everyone’s contributing, so everyone is feeling good about themselves. It’s easy to play that way. We’re in a busy schedule so you just try to stay in the groove and try to keep playing hard every game and do the same things we need to do to win.”Calgary Flames logo

Sam Bennett, Lance Bouma and Sean Monahan added single markers for the Flames in the win.

The Jets’ goals came from Nikolaj Ehlers and Jacob Trouba.

“We just weren’t good enough,” Ehlers said. “That’s just something we’ve got to change.”

The Jets tried to show some pressure in the middle frame but the Flames had a 4-0 lead and responded with a push back of their own in the second.

“We had chances in the first but in the second it was really a lopsided period after the first five, seven minutes,” Tkachuk said. “They came at us hard and we had to come back with a little bounce-back of our own, and I think we did.”

Chad Johnson stopped 26 shots for the win.

Michael Hutchinson started the game and made 25 saves before being replaced to start the third period by Connor Hellebuyck.

“We’ve got to get it out of our mind and focus on tomorrow and have that fire in our belly,” the Jets’ Mark Scheifele said of the effort.
