Gary Haden claimed a dramatic two points for Aspray Glasgow West sponsored Glasgow Clan after they came out on top against Coventry Blaze on penalty shots.
It was Clan’s first win there in over two years and their second win on the road this week as they continue their push up the Elite League standings.
Tyler Kirkup had an early breakaway chance for the hosts when he rushed the Clan net all alone in the opening five minutes, but visiting goalie Jake Kielly managed to deflect his shot over the crossbar.
Phillipe Sanche came close to bagging the opening goal of the game for the visitors shortly after when he released a shot from the back door but it came off the bar and went north.
Darien Craighead and Mike Pelech also had chances to poke the Clan out in front with shots from right in front of the crease, but Taran Kozun was quick to both efforts.
Kobe Roth eventually gave Coventry the lead when Johnny Curran fed him a pass in the slot which he first timed into the Glasgow net.
Luke Lynch levelled the game for the Clan before the end of the period though as he dangled through a sea of Coventry players before knocking the puck beyond Kozun with just 68 seconds to go.
Kielly produced a fantastic save early in the second period, zipping across his goal line and pinned his pad to the pipe to cut off a wraparound attempt from Kirkup.
Sanche and Sol had some dangerous chances for the Clan later in the second as they both put shots on net but were both prevented from tying the game by Kozun.
Jason Morgan’s men thought they scored a second when Pelech then managed to squeeze the puck over the Blaze goal line, but his celebrations were cut short as the officials waved the goal off for a distinct kicking motion on the shot.
Haden also came agonisingly close to bagging the equaliser when he rifled a shot on net from the left circle and it came crashing off the post and stayed out.
But it was Haden who levelled things with a perfectly placed snipe from deep in the centre which eventually sent the game to overtime.
After a scoreless five minutes of the extra period, the game went to a shootout where Haden was the only one to score which proved enough for Clan to take victory in the end.
