Habs send Devils to fourth straight loss with 4-3 OT win

The New Jersey Devils continue to struggle.  Whether it is at home or on the road they have issues with finding any traction and as the number of games dwindle to a precious few, they are in desperate need of points but not loser’s points.

On Monday night, the Devils lost their fourth straight, this time to the Montreal Canadiens in a 4-3 over time decision.

Alex Galchenyuk scored the game-winner on a power play in extra time.

“The two points were very important in the standings and I learned about the character we showed in the third,” Habs head coach Claude Julien said. “We have to realize that you can’t just show up and start playing hockey in the final 20 minutes of every game, because you’re not going to beat many teams that way.”

The Canadiens have not been lighting up either since signing Julien to be bench boss but the win was their second straight.

Max Pacioretty struck twice in regulation and Alexander Radulov added a marker in the win.

The Habs are fighting off the Ottawa Senators and were lucky to have the Sens lose in Tampa Bay Monday.

Al Montoya made 34 saves for the win as the Canadiens improved to 34-21-8.

“Hats off to these guys to go out and do what we did,” Montoya said. “This is the best time in the year. I’ve played in the Stanley Cup Playoffs once in my life, and right now, it’s like the playoffs.”

For Pacioretty , he now has 30 goals on the season, the fifth time he has done that.

“I play with great teammates and great linemates,” Pacioretty said. “That’s what I can attribute my success too.”

Travis Zajac, Kyle Palmieri and John Moore scored for the Devils.

Cory Schneider made 29 saves in the loss as the Devils dropped to 25-25-12.

“It’s certainly a disappointing loss,” Devils coach John Hynes said. “There were just some situations that wound up going in the back of the net and we ended up not winning the game.”
