Gulls run streak to three with win over Condors

The San Diego Gulls won their third consecutive game with a 4-1 win over the Bakersfield Condors. San Diego scored two power-play goals and have now scored on the man advantage in 10 of their 12 games. The Gulls rank fifth in the AHL on the power play (13-of-58, 24.5 percent). The Gulls killed both Condors power plays and have killed 17 of the last 19 penalties the last five games (89.5 percent).

Kevin Boyle stopped 46-of-47 shots to win his third straight game, season highs in shots stopped and faced. During his three-game point streak, Boyle has posted a 2.01 goals-against average and .950 save percentage.

At 6:44 of the first period, Boyle stopped Luke Esposito’s penalty shot attempt. Boyle has stopped both penalty shot attempts in his career (last: Caleb Herbert (unsuccessful) on Dec. 31, 2016 at Texas). The penalty shot was the sixth against the Gulls and fifth unsuccessful (last: Spencer Foo unsuccessful attempt against Jared Coreau on Oct. 26, 2018 vs. Stockton).

Corey Tropp scored his third and fourth goals of the season, his ninth career multi-goal game and 42nd career multi-point effort. Tropp leads San Diego in points (4-10=14) and assists this season.

Troy Terry scored for the third straight game and tallied an assist (1-1=2) to extend his point streak to a club record-tying nine games (6-7=13). The nine-game point streak ties the Gulls all-time record for consecutive games with a point set by Tropp (Dec. 9, 2017-Jan. 3, 2018;8-6=14) and Nic Kerdiles (Feb. 26-Mar. 18, 2016; 7-9=16). Terry has scored points in all nine games to begin his AHL career, a Gulls record. Terry also has recorded a point in all seven home games to begin his career (5-5=10).

Terry’s point streak is the longest current streak in the AHL and is now tied for the longest point streak in the AHL this season, tying Zach Redmond (Rochester) and Reid Boucher (Utica).

Chase De Leo scored his fourth goal of the season at 1:25 of the second period. De Leo has three points his last three games (2-1=3).

In his AHL debut, Isac Lundestrom earned two assists (0-2=2) and had six shots on goal. At 19 years and 10 days, Lundestrom became the youngest Gull to record a point and the third-youngest Gulls to appear in a game. He was selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft.

Josh Mahura also recorded two assists (0-2=2), his second career multi-assist game (also Oct. 19 vs. Milwaukee; 0-2=2).

Sam Steel and Joseph Blandisi each earned an assist of the second straight game. Andrej Sustr also tallied an assist in the win.
