STOCKTON, Calif – Linden Vey scored a goal with two assists and Oliver Kylington added three assists, powering the Stockton Heat (4-2-1-0) past the San Diego Gulls (2-4-1-0) by a 6-1 score in front of 4,101 fans at Stockton Arena. Stockton received goals from six different players on the night as the Heat held the Gulls to a season-low 23 shots on net. San Diego has lost four consecutive contests (0-3-1), and their third in a row on a four-game road trip (0-2-1).
Emerson Etem, playing in his first game for the Gulls since being reassigned by the Anaheim Ducks on Oct. 27, scored a power play goal for the lone San Diego tally, with Brandon Montour and Shea Theodore picking up the assists.
For the second straight game, the Gulls found themselves trailing in the first period by a 2-0 score. Linden Vey’s weaving entry into the offensive zone set up Kenney Morrison perfectly on the back door for the game’s opening goal at 7:39. Minutes later, it was Hunter Shinkaruk darting through defenders before setting up Mark Jankowski for his third goal of the season, a power play goal at 13:02,
The Gulls got theirs back on Etem’s score, a deflection of Montour’s blue line wrist shot at 14:43 of the first period, and San Diego went to the locker room trailing 2-1 despite being held to a season-low five shots in the opening stanza.
The second period was all Stockton, with Emile Poirier, Matt Frattin and Brandon Bollig netting goals for the Heat. Gulls goalie Dustin Tokarski stopped 17-of-22 shots faced over 40 minutes before turning the crease over to Matt Hackett, who stopped 9-of-10 shots in the third period.
Vey took advantage of a reboundat 2:10 of the third period to cap off the scoring with his third goal of the season and seventh point (3-4=7).
The Gulls and Heat will meet for the third time this year and second in the weekend back-to-back series when the puck drops at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night at Stockton Arena.
