Gulls Fall Short to Barracuda in OT

The San Diego Gulls fell short to the San Jose Barracuda at Pechanga Arena San Diego tonight, 5-4.

The Gulls were on the board early as Stian Solberg netted his first of the season 67 seconds into the first period. Matthew Phillips and Tim Washe brought their team-leading point records up with the assists.

San Jose found two to close the first frame with a one-goal lead.

The game was then tied three minutes into the second period as Justin Bailey put a wrist shot in goal. This marks Bailey’s fifth goal in back-to-back games, bringing his total on the season to eight. Jan Mysak and Sasha Pastujov picked up assists.

The Barracuda found two to end the middle frame, but Pastujov responded 40 seconds into the third period with a powerplay goal. The right winger logged his fourth goal of the season and first set of goals in back-to-back games. Ryan Carpenter and Yegor Sidorov both brought their season assist counts to six.

Judd Caulfield managed to deflect the puck off of Solberg’s shot to tie the game in the third and send it to overtime. Caulfield has now recorded three goals in his past two games. Sidorov was also credited as a helper, logging his second assist of the night on the goal.

San Jose was able to find the net to take the extra point.
