Gulls drop 4-3 decision to Reign

The San Diego Gulls fell 4-3 to the Ontario Reign tonight at Valley View Casino Center. The regulation defeat ended a seven-game home point streak from Oct. 19-Nov. 16 (5-0-1-1), tied for the second longest home point streak in club history.

Sam Steel opened the scoring with his first AHL goal 3:08 into the game. Steel has recorded points in three consecutive games (1-2=3). Selected by the Anaheim Ducks in the first round (30th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft, Steel has recorded 1-3=4 points in six games with San Diego this season.

Joseph Blandisi extended his assist streak to three straight games (0-3=3) with the primary assist on Steel’s goal. Keaton Thompson earned his second assist of the season on the goal.

Troy Terry scored for the fourth straight game and added an assist to extend his point streak to a club record 10 games. The 10-game point streak surpasses the previous club record for points in consecutive games set by Corey Tropp (Dec. 9, 2017-Jan. 3, 2018; 8-6=14) and Nic Kerdiles (Feb. 26-Mar. 18, 2016; 7-9=16). Terry has scored points in all 10 career AHL games (7-8=15), and leads San Diego scoring and goals.

Terry also now owns the longest point streak in the AHL this season and currently has the longest point streak by an AHL rookie since San Jose’s Marcus Sorensen recorded a 10-game point streak from Jan. 21-Feb. 25, 2017 (6-9=15).

Terry’s four-game goal streak (4-2=6) is the longest goal streak by a Gulls rookie and tied for the second-longest goal streak in club history, one game shy of tying Brandon Montour’s club record five-game goal streak from Dec. 26, 2016-Jan.16, 2017 (6-4=10). Terry ranks second among AHL leaders with 1.50 points-per game, leads all AHL rookies in points-per game, co-leads rookies in goals and ranks third in scoring among league rookies.

Max Jones recorded his third multi-point game of the season with a goal and assist (1-1=2). Jones has tallied four points in his last three contests (2-2=4).

Isac Lundestrom recorded an assist, his third in two career games. Simon Benoit tallied his fifth assist of the season.

Kevin Boyle (4-3-0) made 29 saves in his fourth consecutive start.
