The San Diego Gulls opened a two-game road trip with a 4-2 setback to the Ontario Reign at Citizens Business Bank Arena. The regulation loss ended San Diego’s five-game point streak from Oct. 13-27 (3-0-1-1).
Josh Mahura opened the scoring with his first AHL goal at 16:54 of the first period. The power-play goal marked his fifth point this season (1-4=5).
Kalle Kossila collected an assist on Mahura’s goal to extend his point streak to three games (3-1=4). Logan Shaw tallied the secondary assist, his fifth point of the season (2-3=5).
Max Jones scored his first regular-season AHL goal with 2:54 remaining in regulation. A first-round selection (24th overall), by the Anaheim Ducks in 2016, Jones scored his first AHL goal on May 10, 2017 vs. San Jose in Game 3 of the Pacific Division Finals.
Troy Terry collected the primary assist on Jones’ goal to extend his point and assist streak to five games (3-5=8). The five-game point streak ties a Gulls rookie record for consecutive games with a point to begin an AHL career, matching Giovanni Fiore’s five consecutive games with a point to begin his AHL career from Oct. 13-25, 2017 (2-3=5). Terry’s five-game assist streak is a club rookie record for assists to begin a Gulls career. Jake Dotchin also earned an assist on the goal, his first point of the season and first as a Gull.
Sam Steel made his AHL debut after collecting 1-2=3 points 12 games with the Anaheim Ducks to begin the 2018-19 season prior to his assignment to San Diego on Oct. 31. Steel was selected by Anaheim in the first round (30th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft.
Kevin Boyle made 23 saves in his fourth appearance of the season.
