
Despite the loss, San Diego has earned standings points in seven straight contests (4-0-3-0) and in nine of the last 10 games (5-1-4-0).
The Gulls opened the scoring with a powerplay goal by Yegor Sidorov, ending a five-game goal drought for the right winger. Sidorov has now recorded 1-3=4 points in his past three games. Ryan Carpenter and Roland McKeown picked up assists on the goal.
Sasha Pastujov followed close behind with another powerplay goal to give San Diego a 2-0 lead. Pastujov has now logged 3-3=6 points over his last four games. McKeown marked his second point of the night with the assist along with goaltender Ville Husso who added one to his resume.
Coachella Valley was able to find two through the second and third period to tie the game. Neither team could break the tie in regulation, sending the Gulls to their sixth overtime of the season.
The Firebirds found the net early in overtime to take the extra point.
San Diego looks to come back tomorrow night as they take on the Calgary Wranglers at Pechanga Arena San Diego (6 p.m. PT).
