An exceedingly short benched Flames lineup took to home ice Wednesday night and Sheffield Steelers scored 3 unanswered, including a pair 40 seconds apart, in the middle frame to do most of their damage on the way to a 5-1 win over Spectrum’s men.
A 13th minute Stephen Harper powerplay goal was the only scoring of the opening set and the visitors went to the middle frame holding that edge.
In the 2nd, Clifford Pu netted at 27:54. Mitchell Heard at 29:07 on a powerplay and then at 29:47 Robert Dowd expanded the advantage they carried into the final set.
In the 48th minute Derek Gentile widened the gap to 5. Flames did get on the board just over 6 minutes from time through Cole Ully to pull the final count a bit closer without changing the ultimate result.
