ST JOHN’S, Newfoundland – The Newfoundland Growlers trounced the Trois-Rivières Lions 4-1 on Saturday night in front of a sellout crowd at the Mary Brown’s Centre.
Ryan Chyzowski opened the scoring midway through the first period with a powerplay snipe to put Newfoundland ahead 1-0 after 20 minutes.
Pavel Gogolev scored twice 2:40 apart late in the middle frame to extend the Growlers lead to 3-0 heading into the third period.
Nicolas Lariviere broke the deadlock for Trois-Rivières on the breakaway to get the Lions within two with 16:49 left in regulation.
Gogolev completed his hat-trick with a late empty netter to seal a record setting 4-1 win for Newfoundland.
