ESTERO, Fla. – The Newfoundland Growlers made it back-to-back victories over the Florida Everblades with a 3-2 win on Saturday night at Hertz Arena.
Brett Budgell opened the scoring six minutes into the first period with a powerplay blast before Jonny Tychonick snapped a man advantage snipe of his own a minute later to give Newfoundland an early 2-0 lead.
Sean Josling grabbed a powerplay goal at the other end to get one back for Florida to make it 2-1 Newfoundland after 20 minutes.
Michael Joyaux reinstated the Growlers two goal lead with a shot through traffic from the top of the circle late in the 2nd to put Newfoundland ahead 3-1 after two.
Josling added a second with 61 seconds left in regulation but despite a flurry at the final whistle, Florida would get no closer as Newfoundland held on for a gutsy 3-2 victory.
Newfoundland resume their road trip in Virginia against the Norfolk Admirals on Thursday night at 8:35pm NL time.
