Growlers sweep Cyclones with 3-1 win

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Newfoundland Growlers swept their series with an unfamiliar foe as they beat the Cincinnati Cyclones 3-1 on Saturday night at Heritage Bank Center.

Pavel Gogolev opened the scoring midway through the first period with a powerplay blast to give the Growlers a 1-0 lead after the 1st.

After Jalen Smereck tied the game with a Cyclones powerplay reply 13 minutes into the middle frame, Isaac Johnson snatched back the lead for Newfoundland with a slick toe drag finish to make it 2-1 Growlers heading into the third period.

Todd Skirving found an empty Cyclones in the dying seconds and Luke Cavallin stopped all 11 3rd period shots he faced to secure a 3-1 win.
