Growlers start fast but lose to Reading

READING, PA – The Newfoundland Growlers were quick out the gate Friday night, but Royals goaltender Callum Booth battened down the hatches for the rest of the game as the Royals went on to win 4-1.

Matt Bradley scored the first goal, post-holiday break for the Newfoundland Growlers just 5 minutes into the first period off a long rebound from Booth.

It would be all Reading after that, as Alex Roos and Brayden Low beat Michael Garteig before the end of the first to give the Royals a 2-1 lead heading into the intermission.

Midway through the third Frank DiChiara scored for the Royals on the power-play. The Growlers had their chances late to claw back but Booth would stand tall. Chris McCarthy added an empty-netter to secure the win 4-1 win for the Royals.

Quick Hits: Ryane Clowe returned from medical leave and was behind the bench… Brad Barone backed up Michael Garteig after joining the team in Reading… The three stars were 3 – C. McCarthy (REA), 2 – B. Low (REA) and 1 – C. Booth (REA).
