Growlers slam Stingrays, 5-3

The Newfoundland Growlers completed an epic comeback win over the South Carolina Stingrays with a 5-3 victory on Saturday night at the Mary Brown’s Centre.

Tate Singleton and Jarid Lukosevicius traded early tallies for their respective sides, the second a shorthanded goal for the Stingrays, to make it 1-1 midway through the first period.

Tyson Empey gave South Carolina the lead after 20 minuets as he found the back of the net with less than three minutes left in the first to make it 2-1 Stingrays going into the second.

Adam Dawe got the Growlers back to level five minutes into the middle frame to make it a 2-2 game before Connor Moore made it advantage Stingrays once again late in the second period to put the visitors ahead 3-2 with 20 minutes to go.

Jacob Modry equalized with 7:07 left in regulation – his first pro goal – before Grant Cruikshank provided the late game heroics scoring both the go-ahead goal with 83 seconds left as well as the empty net insurance marker to secure a thrilling 5-3 Growlers win.
