Growlers outlast Mariners for 4-3 win in OT

The Newfoundland Growlers needed a few extra minutes but they secured both points in a 4-3 overtime win over the Maine Mariners on Friday night at the Mary Brown’s Centre.

Neil Shea got on the board inside the opening two minutes to give the Growlers a quick 1-0 lead that stood true after 20 minutes of play.

Jackson Berezowski got a high scoring period started with a PP strike eight minutes into the middle frame before Ryan Mast replied for Maine five minutes later. After Brock Caufield restored the Growlers two goal lead a moment later, Adam Mechura scored for the Mariners just 46 seconds later to cut it to 3-2 Growlers going into the third.

Reid Stefanson drew even for Maine to make it 3-3 midway through the third period and force proceedings beyond regulation.

Caufield nabbed his second of the game to win it with 1:18 left in OT to secure a 4-3 Newfoundland victory.
